Her Actions Speak Louder than Their Words

This week I had the honor of hearing Lisa Godwin, North Carolina’s 2017 Teacher of the Year, speak at the annual NC Department of Public Instruction conference.  In a world that defines success in terms of money and prestige, Lisa chose to return to the classroom after serving as an Assistant Principal for over four years.  She knew within months of taking the promotion that God meant for her to be in the classroom, but feared being viewed as a failure if she moved back into the role of a Teacher.  She knew people would talk about her and say hurtful things.

She finally decided that it didn’t matter what others said about her.   She knew she belonged in a classroom with children.  She decided to let her actions speak louder than their words.  It is only because she heeded her calling and took this step “backwards” that Lisa now has the opportunity to share her testimony.  I pray it will inspire others to follow their calling.

Moving towards God’s purpose for our lives is not always logical in the world’s eyes. Sometimes it involves perceived losses, financially or in status.  The good news is that God’s plans for us are always better than our plans for ourselves.  Trust Him and follow where He leads, even if His steps don’t follow the easy or expected path.
